On the 11th of October, a Children’s Day celebration was held at Marsiling CC Hall, from 2pm to 6pm. Sticking to its ‘Superhero’ theme from last year, the event featured various activities specially planned out for parents and their children to bond together.

Some of the popular activities that allowed the children to express their creativity include sandwich-making, face-painting, playing ‘snakes and ladders’ and many more.

Previously organised by the Fuchun CC Women’s group, this year’s event saw a doubling of effort with the help of the Women’s Executive Committee.  It made a huge difference in the number of participants compared to last year’s turn-out. Mdm Stella Tan, who led the organizing committee, expressed her gratitude for the people who turned up.

“This year’s turnout is very overwhelming, as you can see there are people at every corner,” said Mdm Stella.

When asked why they chose to stick to the superhero theme, she laughed and said: “Superhero is near to a person’s heart.”

Ultimately, the main purpose of the event was to bring families, especially the parents and the children, closer together.

The event kicked off with the audience enjoying a puppet show. The puppeteer interacted with the audience by introducing his very own puppets, bringing them to life with his antics and performance. The show did not end there as the audience was treated to a magic show performed by the same puppeteer.

Parents were seen enjoying the performances with their children, taking this opportunity to bond with them.

Guest-of-Honour of the day was Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah Yacob who is also the Advisor for the Marsiling Division of Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.  Madam Halimah delivered a keynote address to the attendees, emphasizing  family bonding.

"Children’s Day being yet another occasion for parents and children to bond together. This is meaningful and the children can reflect and appreciate their parents’ involvement in their lives." - Mdm Halimah Yacob

The highlight of the event was the Best Family Superhero Dressed contest. Clad in superhero costumes and printed t-shirts, parents were seen participating in the contest with their children.

Mdm Noris, 32, who came to know about this event through the poster in her neighbourhood, chimed, “I would say the whole event is really value for money seriously as it was only $3.”

Mdm Noris decided to join the contest with her daughter even though it was their first time here in Marsiling CC.

The event ended with a lucky draw  where the winners were given selected prizes presented by Mdm Halimah. But for many, the real prize was the precious bond shared between families on an occasion especially catered for them.
